and filings for employee benefit plans under federal law—including who must provide 

them, who must receive them, and when notices are due.

The notices in this calendar are based on ERISA (the Employee Retirement Income 

Security Act), together with other federal laws that set minimum standards for the 

operation and management of employee benefit plans. To ensure plan compliance and that 

individuals have access to sufficient information to protect their rights and benefits, these 

laws require plans (administrators, sponsors, and employers) to provide specific notices 

to employees and dependents, in addition to submitting information and reports to federal 

government agencies.
